For the third time this year, Agnieszka Radwanska has established a career-high on the rankings.
Radwanska reached a then career-high of No.6 after a quarterfinal showing at January's Australian Open, then made her Top 5 debut after taking the title in Dubai in February. Another quarterfinal appearance at Indian Wells moved her up a spot to No.4 on Monday and raised her record on the year to 20-4, with all four losses coming to Victoria Azarenka.
"I didn't really expect that," Radwanska said of her quick ascension in 2012. "From the beginning of the year, first time No. 6, then No. 5 and now No. 4, and it's only March. I'm very happy about that, of course. I'm just hoping that I can play some good tennis, especially in the Grand Slams."
Here are some of Radwanska's noteworthy ranking accomplishments:
Date Ranking Feat
9/11/06 Top 100 debut
1/29/07 Top 50 debut
2/18/08 Top 20 debut
7/7/08 Top 10 debut
2/27/12 Top 5 debut
3/19/12 Top 4 debut
As for Azarenka, her run to the title in Indian Wells gave her so great a points lead over No.2 Maria Sharapova that she will remain No.1 on the next rankings regardless of her showing in Miami, where she is the defending champ.
Former No.1 Caroline Wozniacki went from No.4 to No.6 and out of the Top 5 for the first time since October 2009 after failing to defend her Indian Wells title.
Indian Wells semifinalist Angelique Kerber set a new career-high for the second straight ranking week in going from No.19 to No.14. With Andrea Petkovic at No.10 and Sabine Lisicki at No.13, No.17 Julia Goerges is just a couple spots short of making it four Germans in the Top 15.
In climbing one spot to No.10, Lucie Hradecka made her Top 10 debut on the doubles rankings. Her 15-3 record on the year has included two titles alongside fellow Czech Andrea Hlavackova.
